match report

Gorey under 19's got there season off to a good start with an 42 17 away victory over a young Greystones side in their first outing of the year.

The bigger Gorey pack lay the foundations from the beginning to storm into a 14 0 lead with 2 tries from second row Niall Cousins . Two more tries from Tommy O Reilly saw Gorey race into a commanding lead,. The lighter Greystones pack struggled to come to terms with their Gorey counterparts and Gorey struck again when some excellent work and quick handling through the backs saw winger Michael Fanning cross for try number five. Gorey seemed to go asleep after this and Greystones came more into the game but could not cross the Gorey line with halftime approaching. The second half continued as the first ended with Greystones finally scoring not one but three tries . Gorey steadied the ship and tries from William O Morchoe OReilly and Killian Breen wrapped up a good opener for Gorey.

Gorey begin their South East campaign with an away fixture to Enniscorthy next saturday. Meanwhile trainning continues every wensday and friday nights at 7.30 and all new and former players are welcome.

Well it was a good start to the season..greystones were much smaller than us all over the field and with the offloading after every line break we ran in trys from everywhere when we got playing... overall very pleased with it just need to learn how to keep the team on the ropes for the full 80 mins ..

tommy Oreilly nabbed himself a hattrick...I got one right at the end..we will be competing for most trys until the christmas break..loser has to do a forefeit...any suggestions?

Update

Well this update is long due .. I have been back in school though sadly and between that and schools rugby I have found time to be very difficult to aquire.

The team has gotton back together and we are training with the first team on wednesday and friday nights every night running 3km as a warm up then htting some ball working drills and offensive positioning. we consistently get 20 players up to train at least and by the looks of it our team should be absolutely huge in the forwards and in the backs...with 5 players having either trained or played with provincial teams and many more who played with the south east the team is going to be fairly talented

Training complete

Well our first session went ahead today and was a resounding success for our U 19s team

With the our training mixed in with the senior teams we originally thought we might be a wee bit out of our depth but this was not to be ,with 20 u19s to 10 first team .

well the session was based around fitneess work with us doing 3km in sprints via this method..

4 lengths of pitch non stop x 4
3 lengths of pitch non stop x 3
2 lengths of pitch non stop x 2
1 length of pitch non stop x 1

Then we ran a 4 attackers Vs 2 defenders drill with varied success with a few new lads showing a good bit of promise..

Then some shuttle runs and bag drills to wear u out further

To finish with a massive game of tag any mistakes..pushups

Alot of the seniors struggled as they booze it up on the summer but with myself and 3 others playing provincial over the summer and most of our other lads playing GAA we were at the top of every sprint for the most part .

What we can take from this session is that we are all fit and ready for the new season and with new focus on our defensive alignment and attacking formation we should hit the ground running come september.

we will be training next wednesday and entering a team in a sevens tournament on friday week...lots in store watch this space

Training called

Well this is my first post in a while as little has happend but now as training has been called for this Wednesday the 29th of July . preseason training along with the first XV and second XV should get the ball rolling nicely .

The beauty of playing rugby in Ireland is that most of the lads will have been kept fit through the summer by playing GAA so preseason is not too harsh on the old body ..

With several lads whom i have been trying to recruit for years to our cause pledged to playing this year we will have a very very serious matchday 22

but more will be revealed following Wednesdays session hopefully :)

Welcome

It may seem a little early to start this blog but as its a month before the season begins I feel that I need to get the ball rolling on this before time starts to fly and my attention gets drawn from this and I only remember this halfway through the season :p

Anyways over the years we have always been known as the almost team I count 4 leinster semi finals 3 south east finals or more , a leinster final and have lost them all.

last year being the most tragic we managed to make it to the leinster div 1 final drew it 0-0 and then were robbed in the replay 10-5 this really was a tough blow to take .

But this year we aim to bounce back with a bigger stronger and more expirianced team ..this is our year and I will be documenting it in depth mainly in to have something to look back upon years from now as my last season with the lads but also if anyone reading has any ideas tips or tricks or ever words of support for the lads it will be much appreciated . thanks

regards
killian :)
